About the Author
Susan Rose-Ackerman is the Henry R. Luce Professor of Jurisprudence (Law and Political Science) at Yale University, Connecticut. She is one of the world's leading scholars of the political economy of corruption and one of the first economists to write on the subject. She is the author or editor of seventeen books and numerous articles. The first edition of her book Corruption and Government has been translated into seventeen languages. In addition to her work on corruption, she writes about public law and public policy from a comparative law and political economy perspective. Her most recent book is Due Process of Lawmaking (with Stefanie Egidy and James Fowkes). She has been a visiting researcher at the World Bank and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, the Paris Institute of Political Studies, and the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.

Bonnie Palifka is an Assistant Professor at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Monterrey, Mexico. She has taught a course on corruption based on the first edition of this book since 2004 at ITESM and since 2011 at Yale University. Dr Palifka has spoken on corruption at conferences in the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, St Kitts, and France. Her most recent publication is 'A Review of Drivers of Corruption: A Brief Review, by Tina Søreide' in the journal Crime, Law and Social Change.

This is a departure from Goldworthy's titles that I have read in the past. His triumphs with books like "Pax Romana" and "Augustus" are dense, brilliant, and hundreds of pages long. "Hadrian's Wall" is different. First, it is less than 200 pages in length, inclusive of front and end matter. Next it has pictures and maps throughout that usually appear at the most convenient location in text.Brevity aside, Goldworthy's writing is always superb, and he does not disappoint here. The work is very accessible and readable, yet it provides great detail on the wall, the Roman Army, and Roman Britain as a whole. Moreover, there is no scholar better qualified to discuss the Roman Army than Mr. Goldworthy. The book was a quick and pleasant read that leaves one wanting to visit the wall.

I bought this book because I will be visiting Hadrian's Wall this summer and wanted more background on the topic. Goldsworthy does an excellent job providing a solid and well written history of the wall. I got all of the background information I hoped for and then some. It is not a long book but it is the perfect length for what I wanted. The author does a great job covering the major points with skill. I enjoyed it greatly and found it highly informative.

Having read a good bit about the Roman republic/empire (but not being an expert in any sense of the word), I found this physically small book to be rich in descriptive text regarding one of the Romans' most successful physical/defensive works. I particularly liked the manner in which the author couches clear distinctions between what is known and what can only be surmised from more or less fragmentary evidence.In fact, it's one of those books where one arrives at the end wishing the whole experience could be prolonged...

This is a very impressive little book, w/ fine diagrams and photos. My only complaint is that the fine photos are in black and white rather than in color. Given the spectacular views photographed, the lack of color is very, very regrettable!

I love Roman History. This is quite interesting and the author has put a little humanity into the writing. I am only half through the book but I will finish it.... I had hoped to learn a little more about the IXth legion that supposedly disappeared into the north and was never found.....

I have always been fascinated by Hadrian's Wall and have enjoyed some of Goldsworthy's works. However, I was disappointed with his latest book. In this day and age, why would the publisher choose to print all maps and photographs in black and white??? Also there is a map (for instance on page 16) that includes a legend and words that are almost too small to see, which is also a result of the small size of the book. It is hard to make out topographical landmarks that are mentioned on photographs. The history and text are great in this book, but the poor quality of photographs and maps is a huge disappointment. It is 2018, so why is everything in this book black and white?

Everything you wanted to know about Hadrian's Wall, but if you really want to know about how the Romans really lived and died at that period, read the author's novels about life in those times.

I was part of a one-week dig at South Shields and Hadrian's Wall. This book, with all its excellent detail, has enriched my experience. Now I have a well-researched over-view of the history of the entire Wall and Britain during the Roman occupation.

It is that respect and love that comes across in the pages of this book as he reveals a more complete picture of Bob Marley's life than we have ever had before. This is not a book about celebrating Bob's greatness - it is a book about really getting to know the guy. Roger talks with most every important person in Bob's life to find out their impressions of Bob. Mr Steffens paints a vivid and shimmering picture for us of how this country youth from Jamaica who apparently was not much of a singer or musician in his early years would grow to become one of the best known and loved musical and cultural personalities on the planet.The fact that Roger Steffens is a Brooklyn born, middle class white American just adds to the significance of the story he tells. This story really has little to do with race or separateness - it is about the triumph of One Love Inity. I believe Robert Marley captivated Mr. Steffens for the same reason he continues to attract the attention of the world - Marley's mission was not about fame and fortune in the music industry - it was about freedom and human dignity and hope. I have not yet finished the book and I really don't want it to end too soon. For an average white boy from the suburbs, reggae grabbed me hard and has never let go.Roger Steffens and I had stumbled on this sublime musical form in much the same way while living in the Bay Area in 1973. Over the years he has become the leading Bob Marley authority, and like me came to value reggae as not just a wonderful musical genre but a very special way to see the world.Oral histories can be messy, but that is why they can be far more illuminating than straight nonfiction prose. In the case of â€œSo Much Things To Say,â€ this format and the sometimes contradictory memories of Bob render a humanness to a man who has been endlessly mythologized.

I began going to Jamaica during Easter break in 1972 and was introduced to the Wailers and Bob by a man I came to know who had a stand up in the hills overlooking MoBay. Many subsequent hours and trips to Jamdown I spent with Junior in his hill top yard, chalice in hand, listening to the Wailers and Bob as their music matured and roots culture spread globally. My first trip to Nine Mile after Bob passed was a milestone. This book brings back so many lasting memories it's just wonderful.

If you don't know a lot about Bob Marley, most of this book will be over your head. This is a truly wonderful book that fills in the details of events as told by those who were there. Oral history books do not spoon feed you with an overview of the stories they tell. You need to have an appreciation of who is telling the stories and how the information enriches what you already know. I love Jamaica, its history, its music, and all thing Marley. I have read many books on Marley, listened to all the music of Marley- and those before, with, and after him. The Marley videos and a trip to Kingston are required for the true fan.
